Jets soaring but far from satisfied with 2-0 start to season
Wide receiver Preston Parker was released by the New York Giants, who signed defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis to the 53-man roster on Tuesday. Overall, his play has disappointed.

Last week, during an exclusive interview with Newsday, Smith said he’s set to have his final X-ray in “a week or so” to determine whether he’s healthy enough to participate in team drills without restrictions, as well as live game action.
“Ryan is our QB right now”.
Indy is 0-2 for second consecutive season, but this time seems a lot different. “He has to get ready for practice”, the coach said.
Bowles kept his team focused despite a tumultuous offseason that featured two of the franchise’s most important players getting involved in the type off-the-field stupidity that can totally hijack a team’s mission statement.
“The only thing that surprised me about Ivory was how quick his feet were”, Bowles said on September 16, per Mehta. “At this point, we just have to focus each and every week on the next opponent. That’s what we’re doing”.
Take the Jets’ quarterback situation, for instance.
After a 2-0 start that featured a dominant victory over the Cleveland Browns and a shocking upset on the road against the Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles named Ryan Fitzpatrick his permanent starting quarterback moving forward.
Barring an injury to Ryan Fitzpatrick, I don’t think we’re going to see Geno Smith starting this season. We’ll see how much he learns this week.
“Yes”, he said without hesitation. For all his flaws, Smith is more advanced than Petty, whom the Jets initially slotted as their third-string quarterback. Through two games, he has completed almost 64% of his passes for 423 yards, four touchdowns and two INT’s.
INJURY WATCH: Decker is expected to have an MRI on his injured knee Tuesday. While the Jets cut Enemkpali hours after he punched Smith, Bowles made it clear he was also disgusted with Smith for allowing the disagreement to build to the point of violence. We’re not where we want to be. “But he cuts well, he’s got good vision [too]”. We’ll try to get better. If Fitzpatrick continues to play well and the Jets keep winning, there is no reason for the coaching staff to go in another direction.
For now, though, the defense has done the job. Then, the Jets went on the road and handed Andrew Luck and the Colts a 13-point defeat on Monday night.
Cassell has 71 starts in 90 games over 11 seasons, not counting the opener this year when he took the first snap for the Bills with Tyrod Taylor lined up at receiver.
Still, Bowles remains unfazed.
The Jets will be hosting the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Bowles said “it’s possible” Smith could be active for Sunday’s game against the Eagles.
