Florida freshman QB Will Grier will start against Kentucky
A concern this week for the Football Cats is stopping another quarterback like Florida’s Will Grier, who ended up being the leading rusher for the Gators in their win over Kentucky Saturday.

United Kingdom quarterback Patrick Towles was 8 of 24 on the night with 126 yards and two interceptions.
GRIER GETS THE CALL: Redshirt freshman Will Grier will make his second straight start at quarterback for Florida, aiming to lock up the job after passing for 151 yards and two touchdowns against East Carolina.
Grier also made some plays with his legs, but on some of those he should have stayed in the pocket and let plays develop, McElwain said.
The Gators certainly will have a lot to work on this week as their SEC schedule grows progressively stronger.
All we’re talking about now is whether Stoops’ bunch reaches a corner this season, or next.
For most of the first half, the inexperienced UF offensive front had problems creating any kind of space in the running game. And we’re not going to play one.
Florida may have prevailed over Kentucky in triple-overtime last fall, but the Gators better prepare for an even tougher battle against a Wildcats squad that has legitimate stake at the SEC East title this year.
Stopping the run will be a priority this week against Kentucky’s two-headed tandem of Stanley Williams and JoJo Kemp.

The Gators were on the verge of going up 21-3 with a first-and-goal from Kentucky’s 5, but Grier threw a bone-headed interception into the end zone that suddenly transformed the Commonwealth Stadium crowd into a Rupp Arena crowd.
Following Harmon’s interception in the third quarter, Towles’ 33-yard scramble highlighted a 75-yard drive by the Wildcats to inch closer at 14-6 with 14:50 in the fourth.
“I was pleased with the defensive effort”, Stoops said.
Senior offensive guard Trip Thurman said he had no problem with McElwain’s sideline explosion. Taylor had 45 yards rushing on 16 attempts.
“The guys were into this game and played their hearts out”. “If a guy’s hitting it and distributing it and has a good stroke, then we’ll go with it”, he said. September. Gators sophomore Treon Harris, meanwhile, has completed 19-of-27 for 269 yards and two scores.
Florida’s win over Kentucky was its 29th consecutive victory over the Wildcats, and extended what is now the nation’s longest active winning streak by one FBS team over another.
Not quite what coach Mark Stoops expected after his team upset South Carolina 26-22 last week.

It was a sequence that not only proved to be the difference, but one that gave Florida just enough momentum to carry through the remanning three quarters.
