The “Lay Me Down” hitmaker has dubbed the track a “classic Bond song” but isn’t anxious about it hitting number one in the charts.

Smith, 23, confirmed earlier this month that he was taking up the gauntlet from Adele after months of speculation and denials. “Writing’s on the Wall” is the first Bond theme to be sung by a man in 50 years, and – surprise! – it’s a power ballad. The theme song titled, The Writing’s On The Wall, will be revealed on September 25.
Sam Smith is “s****ing” himself over the release of his Bond song. “I got to get away with unbelievable string and brass sections – I got to be a drama queen”.
Heineken’s association with the James Bond film franchise dates back to 1997’s Tomorrow Never Dies, with SPECTRE being the seventh consecutive film in the partnership. “I’m just trying to make it the most honest work I’ve ever done”.
The 47-year-old star, who is preparing to reprise his famous role on the big screen for new 007 movie Spectre, said he was not satisfied with 2008’s Quantum Of Solace so he was determined to pull out all the stops with 2012’s Skyfall. While he wanted the Bond theme to sound “strong” he and the film’s director Sam Mendes ensured his personality also shone through in the melancholic tune.

The new Bond movie is going to be released in the United Kingdom on October 26 and in the U.S. on November 6, 2015. He said in an interview that he is nervous about how Bond fans will react to his song. It’s big and dramatic and showcases the full range of Sam Smith’s extraordinary voice.
