Dalai Lama cancels USA events after health checkup

CU said those who purchased tickets for the Dalai Lama’s events beginning the week of October. 5 will have the costs refunded to their credit cards.

Tenzin Gyatso, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, has canceled his upcoming appearance at the University of Massachusetts Amherst along with his entire USA tour.

During the interview, Mr. Myrie requested the 80-year-old Dalai Lama if there can be a 15th Dalai Lama when he dies, and in that case, might his successor be a lady.

The Dalai Lama came to the United States earlier in the week for a medical evaluation, but according to a statement from his office, doctors have advised that he take a “complete rest”.

Messages left by The Associated Press with the Office of Tibet, which represents the Dalai Lama in North America, were not immediately returned Friday.

Since 1959, the Dalai Lama has lived in exile in Dharamsala, northern India. The first was an event open only to students, faculty and staff and the second appearance was a public teaching and talk on training the mind and compassion.

The Office of Tibet has will reconsider rescheduling the visit. The visit had been in the works for almost two years.
