Resigning House Speaker John Boehner Set for Live ‘Face the Nation’ Interview
If so, it was to no avail. Boehner, as recently as last week, characterized his job this way: “Prisoners learn how to become prisoners, all right?”

He said Friday that a day after a historic high point – the pope’s visit and speech to Congress, Boehner’s longtime goal – he awoke and decided this was the day.
Now Boehner is a famous crier.
But as I’ve said he was a good man and a reasonable man and he’s going to be around for a while and I hope that we can get some things done before he steps down. Just hot, salty, bitter tears of anguish and frustration. On the hot-button issues, he has not discouraged or stood in the way of Republicans who opposed home rule and democracy for the residents of the District.
Boehner and McConnell have not always seen eye to eye as Boehner wrestled with hardline conservatives in his caucus, but McConnell said that throughout those disagreements, Boehner “never, ever misled me”. Republicans have threatened to oust him as leader should he team up with Democrats to fund Planned Parenthood and pass an appropriations bill.
Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and a Boehner ally, echoed that, saying “we can’t continue to allow this super-ultra minority to dictate” the GOP’s legislative agenda. “It’s happening because there’s a newly elected senator that showed up and started articulating principles that were consistent with the Republican platform.”

With news of John Boehner stepping down as Speaker of the House at the end of October, speculation has exploded of who will be the next leader of Congress’ lower chamber.
“The time has come to turn the page for a new generation of leadership”, Rubio said, “and that extends to the White House”. “I want them living in this office”, he told the Times. Boehner said in his resignation news conference that he was certain he could hold on to the job, but didn’t want to subject the “institution” to a vacate vote.
“They think they can’t win the battle”, Santorum said, “so they give up before it’s even fought”.
“Now we’re told … we have to wait until 2017.”
When asked if he thinks this development is a repudiation of the establishment-and an affirmation of conservatism-Paul said he did.
“I’m not here to bash anyone”, Rubio told the crowd. You don’t get what you want 100% of the time. Boehner’s resignation will trigger an election of a new speaker, which McCarthy is favored to win. “Y’all come to town and somehow that changes. My only request is, ‘Can you come more often?”‘
Cruz spoke more directly about Boehner with reporters at the summit. Nonetheless, tea party lawmakers had been pressing him to retry the tactic to try to take away federal funding from Planned Parenthood following the disclosure of controversial videos involving its practices of procuring fetal tissue for research purposes.
So Boehner had good reason to be fed up with Pope Ted. Kansas political icon Bob Dole, a former U.S. Senate majority leader and the GOP’s 1996 presidential nominee, issued a statement calling Boehner a “decent, honest person”.

Boehner, who took over as Speaker of the House in January 2011, said he had planned to announce in November that he would resign at the end of the year but had not said so publicly, the AP reported.
