Hyundai Recalls 470K Sonatas Over Engine Stalling

Subject to the recall are the Sonata midsize sedans produced between 2011 and 2012, according to the reports.

That extra metal can restrict oil flow to the connecting rod bearings, leading to failure of the bearings.

Dealers will inspect the cars and replace engine assemblies if necessary for free. In addition, Hyundai will extend the engine warranty for 10 years or 120,000 miles. The extension will apply no matter if you’re the original owner, or if you bought the Sonata used. A second notification will be mailed when parts are available.

BENGALURU – Hyundai Motors said it would recall 470,000 Sonata sedans in the United States to replace faulty engine parts, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The company also is recalling almost 100,000 Accent subcompact cars because the brake lights can fail. While that sounds like a lighting problem, its repercussions could be far more dire.

Hyundai says that it will mail recall notices to owners no later than November 2, 2015.
