Facebook Uses Star Wars Clip to Debut 360-Degree Video

With this initiative, Facebook has opened a new frontier for content creators to benefit by sharing their innovative 360-degree videos. Surround vdeo is already working on several Androir devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2.

Support for the iOS platform will comply with within the coming months, the corporate stated.

360 videos are created using specially designed cameras that capture content in 360 degrees simultaneously, giving viewers an option to select their favored angle.

For now, on the web and mobile the users would be able to swipe around to view different angles or the phone’s gyroscope will pick up their swivelling motions and convert them into moving your perspective.

At the launch, publishers such as Star Wars, GoPro, Discovery, VICE and others will start posting their 360-degree videos. “This is one reason video has been so successful on Facebook, and we’re excited to take it a step further with 360 video”, the announcement read.

While anyone can upload 360-degree videos to Facebook, the cameras required to shoot this kind of footage will still set you back a pretty penny. The company revealed the 360-degree video project on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
