GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson said that he “absolutely” stands by his comments on Sunday that he would not support a Muslim president, but clarified that he would be opposed to any politician, including a Christian, looking to turn America into a theocracy. “If they’re willing to subjugate that to the American way and to our Constitution, then I have no problem with that”.

Speaking on “Meet the Press” Sunday, Carson said a president’s faith needs to be consistent with American values.
“What this will likely do is pick up on the theme he doesn’t have that much political experience”, Burbank said because of Carson’s response to questions about Trump not correcting a supporter who suggested President Barack Obama is a Muslim.
Carson said Thomas Jefferson would “stroke out and die” if he saw how expansive the USA government has become.
Carson, who is a Christian, stated that it is important for a president to put the Constitution above their religion.

Again, Carson did not say Muslims should be banned from public office just that he wouldn’t advocate for them.
