Luke McCown will be making his first start for the New Orleans Saints on Sunday vs. the Carolina Panthers. While he wouldn’t give an exact timetable, Payton did add he expects his quarterback to be ready “sooner than later” and that Brees will continue to rehab and progress next week.

If there’s any possibility of playing this week, he says he’ll be on the field. “It’s a process that really starts with warming up and testing out how it feels, so we’ll see where it’s at”. I don’t think I’d put that tag on McCown.

Brees suffered what appeared to be a shoulder injury against the Buccaneers during Week 2. It is McCown’s third year with the Saints, and he has yet to complete a pass on the team. His 81-consecutive games streak ranked sixth among active quarterbacks. The Falcons are one of the early surprises with both of their wins coming against NFC East teams (Philadelphia and New York Giants). The 36-year-old now has a completion percentage of 62.8 with two touchdowns and two interceptions through two games in 2015.

And with Josh McCown returning as the starter for the Cleveland Browns this weekend, it’ll mark the first time that the brothers will both start an National Football League game since Week 14 of the 2007 season, according to ESPN Stats & Information. It was at that point that the Saints made a decision to rule out Brees for Week 3 against the Panthers.
