Easily the most surprising name on this list, Charlie Frye looked like a future great in his first game as a professional football player.
It was a particularly impressive win that showed progress from last season for the Titans. A pass to Harry Douglas brought the Titans within 12 yards of scoring.
It didn’t turn out that way though, as Frye became yet another name on the list of Cleveland QB failures. But Mariota also is the only quarterback in the AFC South who was able to get a victory on Sunday.

Dan Marino was no stranger to playing great football for the Miami Dolphins and his rookie debut was no exception. Late in the third quarter, the Titans downed a punt to the Bucs’ two-yard line, and the Bucs responded with a false start, an illegal formation and a Winston pass that was almost picked off. Sensabaugh said that he saw a rarity from Winston: frustration. This comes out to a ideal quarterback rating of 158.3.
From the first drive of the game, the Titans and Mariota looked prepared for a better 2015 campaign. It hasn’t happened for a quarterback since Robert Griffin III burst onto the scene in 2012. But it’s today. It’s one game.

Marcus Mariota completed 13-of-16 passes for 209 yards and four touchdowns and ran the ball twice for six yards in the Titans’ Week 1 win over the Buccaneers. This season, he was benched before the year began.

Also, he said he wanted to thank Oregonians for their support. For at least one season though, he was one of the best players in the game (won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2012 against a loaded class).
