There have been rumors for weeks that the Cleveland Browns could be grooming Johnny Manziel to become the eventual starter.

The success was short-lived.

In the third quarter, Fitzpatrick (15 of 24, 179 yards, one interception) threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon Marshall (six catches for 62 yards) and kicker Nick Folk booted a 34-yard field goal.

Browns starting quarterback Josh McCown left with a concussion after taking a hard hit late in the first quarter. McCown must go through the league’s concussion protocol, leaving the Browns’ quarterback situation uncertain.

However, the polarizing back-up quarterback wouldn’t see any game snaps unless tragedy struck and the Browns lost their starting quarterback, Josh McCown.

“If that calls for lowering my head to make sure we get a first down, then I’ll do that”.

“You’re that close to the end zone, I mean if he had hung onto the ball and not gotten helicoptered in and landed and we had won the game, we’re carrying him off the field in a good way”. He’s going to do a great job. We are going to have to break some tackles. “The ones that we didn’t convert a lot of them were self-inflicted wounds from holding or turnovers or anything like that”, Hartline said. That wasn’t the case with Manziel.

Mauldin apparently took a hit in a collision on the ground, after he dove and tried to contribute toward a strip sack of Johnny Manziel.

After watching the film Monday, Pettine said the team’s running backs “left some yards out there”. So, of course, I’m ready to go play. “When you have spit on the side of your mouth and you’re slobbering and you’re in warmup and pregame and everything like that, it’s typical to happen to a rookie their first game out”. The Browns had nearly total control of the first half but were left with a 14-10 deficit, giving away as many as 18 points in the process.

Mauldin, a third-round pick out of Louisville, sacked Johnny Manziel and caused a fumble that Darrelle Revis recovered deep in Browns territory. The Jets will need Cromartie this season as he is a ball hawk who has 31 interceptions throughout his career.

“Can’t turn it over”, Manziel said.

“Obviously, the second half leaves a bitter taste in your mouth”, Manziel said. “There were a lot of little things that occurred that swung some plays”, Pettine said. But Mauldin endured a terrifying moment early in the fourth quarter.

On Sunday, the Jets replaced Cromartie by using slot corner Buster Skrine on the outside.

No. 3 quarterback Austin Davis inactive. We talked about that when I came here, the passion of those fans and the way that they support us, we’ve got to put it back out there on the field when we do it, too. “On offense, we moved the ball, throwing the ball and running the ball”.

Manziel’s first instinct is to bail out of the pocket and run.

“There were an instance or two where I thought he could have stuck with the read and I think part of it is that he saw a gain in front of him and went ahead and took it”, Pettine said.
