Instagram tops more than 400 million users

It has hit the 400 million monthly active users mark and this is much more than Twitter, which has little more than three million active users a month. The new figure means the company has more users than rivals like Twitter, which has over 300 million members. Users now share over 80 million photos and videos on the platform per day on an average, which get around 3.5 billion daily likes. The countries that recorded the highest number of new users are Brazil, Indonesia and Japan.

When the site launched close to five years ago, 400 million was a distant dream, read the blog.

Instagram did not take long in getting the attention of high-profile celebrities like David Beckham, footballer Toni Kroos and Caitlyn Jenner.

However, the numbers put Instagram beyond Twitter, which in June reported 316 million active monthly users. Mobile ad revenue for Instagram is predicted to rise to $2.39 billion which will subsequently result in Instagram accounting for 10% of Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s ad revenue that year.

In 2012, Facebook had announced the acquisition of Instagram for Dollars one billion. Instagram promotion income will represent 14 percent of Facebook’s aggregate versatile advertisement income in 2017, eMarketer predicts, highlighting how key the standalone application will get to be for the long range interpersonal communication site.

Instagram’s growth comes at a time when social media firm Twitter is struggling to draw users to its platform.

Previous year in December, Instagram announced a milestone of sorts when they revealed that they had reached 300 million users.
