In second place was “Black Mass“, the film adaptation of the life of the criminal James “Whitey” Bulger, who between the 1970s and 1980s worked as an FBI informant in order to control the south of Boston while his brother William was engaged politics and was becoming senator from Massachusetts.
“A Walk in the Woods”, starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte took the number seven spot at $2.8 million. The film, which stars Sanaa Lathan as a woman whose relationship with a charming new man (Michael Ealy) turns into a unsafe obsession, has earned $41.4 million so far. Let’s not even go into Transcendence ($10.9 million) or Mortdecai ($4.2 million). Add that to the $30 million debut here in the states, and you’re looking at a much nicer total of $108 million after just two weeks.
The arrival of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials means last weekend’s number one The flawless Guy was pushed into fourth place after the thriller pulled in another 9.6 million dollars. The film doesn’t officially open nationwide until September 25. It may be followed by the Christian film War Room, thanks to a potential $6.6 million in box office receipts. While that came in slightly below the debut of the 2014 young-adult dystopian sci-fi original, it counted as a win for a movie that cost $61 million to make.
Businesses also benefited with more than $1 million being spent on hardware and lumber supplies.

The faith-based film, which stars David Oyelowo and Kate Mara, is based on Ashley Smith’s book “Unlikely Angel: The Untold Story of the Atlanta Hostage Hero”. “But when he connects with the bat, he hits it out of the park”, said Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. distribution executive vice president, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
