“Oh, absolutely. No problem with that”, Trump, telling a reporter outside the event: “I love the Muslims”.

“If it’s inconsistent with the values and principles of America, then of course it should matter”, he clarified. Asked if he thought Islam met this bar, the retired neurosurgeon said: “No, I do not.”Carson gave up some ground in a CNN/ORC poll released on Sunday, slipping to third place from second with 14 percent of support”.

Ellison, D-Minn., became the first Muslim-American to be elected to Congress in 2007 when he was sworn in on a Quran rather than a Bible as is traditionally done.

Ben Carson has expressed his views about why he does not feel a Muslim should be president of The United States.

Trump’s silence has been compared with an incident during John McCain’s presidential campaign in 2008 when he took the microphone and corrected an audience member who said she couldn’t trust Obama because he is “an Arab”.

“I consider Muslim Americans to be an important asset to our country and society”.

He said he is open, though, to voting for a Muslim for Congress. “It’s a problem in this country it’s a problem throughout this world….You do have a problem with radical Muslims”.

“I believe that he is”, Carson said when asked if he believed that “the President was born in the United States and is a Christian”.

On ABC’s This Week today, Stephanopoulos asked Trump: “You’ve raised these questions so often in the past, why can’t you just say definitively yes or no?”

Real-estate tycoon Donald Trump refused to answer multiple questions about President Barack Obama’s birth certificate on Sunday.

Ibrahim Cooper, head of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said Carson’s comments were “beyond the pale”, and that the candidate should withdraw. “You know, a lot of people are saying that and a lot of people are saying that bad things are happening”, Trump had responded without correcting the supporter, inviting a barrage of criticism. It’s called Muslims”, and “You know our current president is one.
