Lamb stifles Cardinals again, but Reds lose 2-1
Both delivered strong games Tuesday night in a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Reliever Sam LeCure was tagged with his second loss for the Reds, who have dropped three in-a-row.

The Reds will visit the Cardinals at 8:15PM ET tonight at Busch Stadium and in this matchup, the under has been kind to bettors. The Cardinals appeared ready to break into the run column once they had access to the Reds bullpen, but Wong made it only as far as third base before the inning ended. “It had nothing to do with command or arm angle, it was just was one of those things where [Jason Bourgeois] had a good at bat against me and pulled the walk”. This will be the third appearance for Finnegan against the Cardinals.
2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on. In his six starts since beating the Dodgers, Sampson was 0-4 with a 10.07 ERA.
But Tuesday, the Cardinals didn’t have much luck against the 24-year-old.
They scored only in the first on Jay Bruce’s 456-foot homer to right center.
It was also Bruce’s fourth homer in his last eight games. The Cardinals defense turned 3 double plays on the night to kill Commie rallies and the Reds stranded 9 more. He did have a few infield hits, bloops hits and three double plays.
But after Pham’s double, Sampson would go on to retire the next nine batters he faced, cruising into the sixth inning.
That ended his night, as Price came out to replace him, bringing in Cingrani.
Lackey has worked at least six innings in 19 consecutive starts, and Reds manager Bryan Price expressed an opinion that Lackey is pitching as well or better than he ever has previously.
“I try to pitch good all the time”, DeSclafani said. “As he matures as a pitcher and uses his entire mix, he’s going to be even better”.
Manager Mike Matheny insists there’s nothing physically wrong with Lynn. “I’ve got two younger brothers”. Instead, he got the out at first, and the runners moved up. The play looked odd, and it left some with the impression the Reds were unaware Piscotty had taken over in left. Now he just focuses on his approach and staying within what he knows he can do. That got Sampson off the hook for the decision. But then Carpenter singled, moving Cruz to third. Cardinals center fielder Tommy Pham then hit a sacrifice fly to deep left-center field, scoring Cruz. Brandon Phillips laced an RBI single in the first for Cincinnati. He has 165 in his career, which began in 2002. He also had a 38-game streak in 2010.
Jaime Garcia, looking to crack double-digit wins for the first time since 2011, spotted the Reds a run in the first when a leadoff walk and two hits spiraled into a 28-pitch frame.
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher John Lackey yells as he walks… De Jesus grounded out to third, ending the threat.

“As big of a mess as you could put yourself in, just keep trying to make pitches, ” Rosenthal said after working around two one-hit singles. “Quite often you’re coming up against some of their better players with very little margin for error”. “There were a lot of counts that were in their favor, and they were able to wiggle out of some jams, and we weren’t in the later innings”.
