Peterson Carries the Load in Vikes Win

The Vikings won the time of possession battle, controlling the ball for 31:06…. His 5-yard touchdown reception from Teddy Bridgewater on the first series gave them a 7-0 lead, and they never looked back.

The Lions knew full well they were going to see a lot of Peterson.

The last time Peterson took the field in Minnesota was December. 1, 2013, also the date of what had been his most recent 100-yard game. The offense relied heavily on the former MVP for offense as Peterson also had 58 yards receiving, which led the team.

“Most definitely”, he said.

“The weather was handsome, and it was just a great day for football”, Peterson said.

“Obviously”, free safety Harrison Smith said, “that felt good after last week.” Six days after letting the 49ers gain 230 yards on the ground, the Vikings limited the Lions (0-2) to 38 yards on 16 rushes.

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was sporting bandages when he entered the game and he needed several more, as well as chest X-rays, following a 26-16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

But a two-point conversion failed, effectively ending the game. He took hit after hit from the Minnesota defense. Only Colin Kaepernick has been pressured on more dropbacks through two games (35 to Stafford’s 34). Bridgewater finished the game 14 of 18 for 153 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. Johnson found a way to get open eventually, finishing with 10 catches for 83 yards and one score.

-SPECIAL TEAMS: C-minus – There was nothing positive to note for the Lions in this phase. The veteran wideout recorded an awesome 207-yard performance versus the Vikings in 2012 and has four touchdowns in his last five meetings. “Some things, things are clicking, it’s just not consistent enough and that’s what we have to work on”.

“We’re going to be all right”. A couple of them I wouldn’t be surprised if we turn them in [to the NFL]. After the ugly loss, one of Zimmer’s mentors, Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells, called him.

Other than Calvin Johnson looking better and Eric Ebron showing much improvement thus far, I really have nothing else nice to say about the Lions.

“We are moving on from Detroit”, Griffen said.

Munnerlyn said it helped the Vikings’ confidence that Griffen came out Wednesday and predicted the Vikings would beat the Lions.

“I got faith in my guys”, Griffen said. A lot of them had to do with just kind of coming off late. Carter ended his Minnesota career with 12,410 yards.

Frank covers sports and political issues for Stabley Times. But the Lions insist there is not too much concern despite the rough start.

“I was very disappointed in their team“. After watching Dallas carve through New York in disturbing fashion on Sunday night – minus Dez Bryant – I’m ticketing Julio Jones to put up massive numbers in MetLife.
