The apartment block was within a gated community and a lifeguard told The Irish Sun: “I was the one who identified him”.

Hutch’s masked killer had stopped to catch his breath, where I rested, as he clambered his way towards his getaway auto, wearing his balaclava and gloves.

He found himself trapped when he found a door leading onto waste ground behind the complex locked after a dramatic chase round the communal swimming pool.

According to local reports, Gary Hutch received three bullets wounds in the attack on Thursday morning and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Other neighbours said the dead man was “pleasant” but “kept himself to himself”.

‘We thought at first it was a terrorist.

The resort where the murder happened is one of the most popular ex-pat and tourist areas on the Costa del Sol.

It is the second violent death in the Andalucia town of Mijas in the past week after a Colombian man was shot dead in his auto last week in a suspected drug-related crime.

Two gunmen shot him nine times on the terrace of Harmon’s Irish Bar in Elviria, near Marbella.

The gangster was trying to escape out of a back exit on the gated Costa del Sol estate where he lived when he was cornered and shot in the head and chest.

Investigators are still probing why the vehicle, thought to belong to an organised criminal gang, had been left there.
