“The AFL prides itself with our game experience becoming risk-free area for all associates, especially for females and families”, he explained.

“It was completely unacceptable and doesn’t represent our game in any way”, McLachlan said. “What we saw last night was something that we’re going to tackle in the strongest form”.

“I haven’t had a chance, really, to get out on the oval with (my family) that much before”, Pavlich told the club’s website.

The incident came just a day after new Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull labelled violence against women as “un-Australian” during the launch of a $100 million domestic violence package.

A Fremantle supporter recoiled to hit Isaac Smith as he retrieved a ball on the boundary and Luke Breust appeared to struck by a fan hanging over the fence – the man was ejected from the game.

Another Dockers fan was ejected from Domains stadium after he was seen pushing Hawthorn forward Luke Breust, who had been tackled into the fence; subsequent to the tackle, the unnamed fan was seen shoving him with what appeared to be an inflatable anchor.

The 256-game defender wiped away tears and waved to the few remaining fans, who broke into a smattering of applause when they recognised him slowly making his way across the ground after the game.
