Panthers’ Kuechly likely to miss game, Saints QB Brees also sidelined

Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly missed the first game of his National Football League career last Sunday and it’s going to take an unexpected turn of events for him to avoid missing No. 2 when the Panthers face the Saints this Sunday.

Kuechly (concussion) did not take part in Friday’s practice, Joe Person of The Charlotte Observer reports. But there’s still no indication whether Kuechly will play this week against the Saints.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said that Kuechly is “champing at the bit” to get back on the field. On Wednesday, wearing a ball cap rather than a helmet, Kuechly ran to each linebacker drill and hit the blocking dummies during the portion of practice open to the media.

JOHNSON MISSES ANOTHER PRACTICE: Rivera was asked if he was looking forward to having his entire defensive line rotation available.

Klein said his preparation this week is just like it was last week, which means he’s preparing as if he’s going to start and play.

Kuechly participated in light exercise at practice for the first time since he suffered a concussion in Week 1.

“Yeah, I guess that’s what that could be considered, and we’ll see how he is in the morning. I think they’ve got that kind of ability”.

“It was very weird playing without him”, Davis said.

“He can see things from the sideline, and he understands our defense and has put in a lot of time watching film on New Orleans, so he knows what to expect”, Davis said.
