Curran earns England recognition

Rossington posted his first ton of the season off 88 balls in the over after lunch but Murphy should have gone soon after when he nibbled one from Tom Curran into the cordon where Roy downed a regulation chance at second slip. He also played county cricket for Northamptonshire, but sadly died in 2012 at the age of 53 after he collapsed while out jogging. In 2011, Namibia’s Scholtz brothers took all the wickets against Kwazulu-Natal Inland in the South Africa domestic competition. This was before Ben Duckett and Alex Wakely showed resilience and application to take them to within 77 runs of avoiding innings defeat.

It was a day of double celebration for Sam Curran, who was selected for the England Under-19 squad for a series in Sri Lanka in December.

This is a great achievement for the younger Curran, considering he made his first-class debut only in July 2015.

Both the Currans will soon be qualified to play worldwide cricket for England.

Tom Curran was the star with the ball taking seven for 35 in just 13.5 overs – two bowled, three caught, and two LBW – while brother Sam chipped in with three for 46 – two LBW and one caught.

Tom picked up 7/35 while Sam managed figures of 3/46 as Northamptonshire were bowled out for 110.

Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart has described Sam as: “The best 17-year-old cricketer that I have seen”. Surrey had piled up 410 thanks to a wonderful century from Kumar Sangakkara and it was the turn of the Curran brothers to wreck havoc.

The pair, pipped for big things in the game, have been enjoying significant success as they helped Surrey to promotion back to the top flight.
