Kerry McCarthy, the new shadow environment secretary, said: “I think it worked well in terms of trying to set a different tone – to signal that it’s not about the Westminster bubble, it’s not about the Punch and Judy theatrical show”.

Shadow chancellor John McDonnell has been criticised for trying to “excuse” his call for IRA terrorists to be honoured after he apologised for the “offence” he had caused. “It was the bombs and bullets and sacrifice made by the likes of Bobby Sands that brought Britain to the negotiating table”.
Pressed over whether he would support action, he told the programme: “We have said, consistently, if the Government has a proposition we need to look at what that is”.

Miliband resigned as Labour leader in May after his party suffered a massive defeat to Cameron’s Conservatives.
Mr Corbyn made it clear he felt deep unease at aspects of the EU’s direction and said he would wait to make his mind up whether he backed remaining or leaving the EU. “But we too want to see reform”, the 66-year-old opposition leader wrote in a guest commentary for the “Financial Times“, published on Thursday.
He wrote: “Labour will oppose any attempt by the Conservative government to undermine rights at work – whether in domestic or European legislation”.
“Although it’s an honour it is not something I am seeking at this point as I have lots of irons in many fires and I want to continue pursuing those”.
“The Tories reduced it from 50p to 45p and we’d just like to go back to 50p”.
Mr Moriarty said: “It is clear from last Saturday’s result that Jeremy Corbyn has a mandate from all levels of the membership and, following his election, I understand a further 15,000 new members have joined Labour”.
Ms Cooper said she was also looking forward to spending more time in her constituency now the leadership campaign is over.
