Although Arsenal won their appeal against Gabriel’s red card earlier on Tuesday, the FA have taken action against Costa for his conduct which was not spotted on the pitch by referee Mike Dean.

Arsenal had actually used an instance involving Chelsea from last season when stating their case over Gabriel, pointing to the fact that midfielder Nemanja Matic had a three-game suspension shortened by one after he reacted to a unsafe tackle from Burnley striker Ashley Barnes.

The Spanish global had denied the charge, which came after video evidence showed the striker walloping Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny in the face during Chelsea’s controversial 1-0 win.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has claimed he doesn’t want to make comments on Diego Costa’s recent ban to avoid a suspension himself.

“We are extremely disappointed with the FA Regulatory Commission’s decision to suspend Diego Costa”, they said in a statement.

The incredible outcome will infuriate Chelsea who are awaiting the outcome of the commission and their verdict on whether Costa should serve a retrospective ban.

His Arsenal counterpart and bitter rival Arsene Wenger said the FA’s decision to rescind Gabriel’s red card repaired just five per cent of the damage his team suffered during the defeat.

According to Daily Mail, the FA are charging Costa with “violent conduct” after grabbing Koscienly in the face and later knocking him to the ground.

Additionally, both Chelsea and Arsenal were charged with failing to control their players in a game that was full of tension.

“The player is now subject to a separate FA charge of improper conduct in relation to Saturday’s game and has until 6pm on Thursday [24 September 2015] to reply”.
