Cong announces 242 candidates for Bihar polls

The statement, which sounds so generic otherwise, was in fact very objective which was later proven and reflected in the results with women doing better than men in terms of vote percentage with of 54.85%. Pappu flirted with the NDA till August, but his demand of 35-40 seats was too much for the BJP, and the deal didn’t go through.

Oawisi’s party will field candidates in Seemanchal region, almost on 23 seats, which is dominated by minority community. Among the South Carolina candidates, 27 are Mahadalits and 11 Paswans. He said that 16% of the candidates belong to the SC-ST category while 14% candidates are Muslim. Forward castes, accounting 15 per cent of the total population, are the main vote bank of BJP.

Kumar, who has been chosen as Chief Ministerial candidate by the grand secular alliance of JD(U), RJD and Congress, said at a function of a private national TV channel, “I am prepared for a debate on jungle raj issue”.

The candidate for Rajgir which will be contested by the JDU is yet to be announced.

Nitish said that all sections of society had due representation in the list.

It was also seen that a number of JD(U) and RJD candidates have been “adjusted” in the Congress list.

Lalu Prasad and his wife and former chief minister Rabri Devi won several elections between 1995 to 2010 from Raghopur.

Going by the list, it is visible that 35 out of 118 sitting MLAs have been denied ticket whereas from the RJD, five out of 22 have been denied tickets.

The JD(U) and RJD are contesting 101 seats each while the Congress will be in the fray for the remaining 41 seats. “He (Nitish) has stated in the press conference that he had permission to announce the list, he had the permission of Lalu Prasad“.

There was no drama, no cries of disappointment and no unnecessary hullabaloo, which had accompanied the NDA’s lists of candidates for the Bihar assembly elections. Giving 47 tickets to this group is viewed as a counter to the politics of Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha and his RLSP.

Not leaving any stone unturned to launch an attack against the BJP, Mr Kumar pointed out that the RSS was trying to “enforce its agenda throughout the country” through the BJP.

Dozens of party workers from Bhagalpur, Ashthawan, Kuchaikot and Behrampur seats also shouted slogans against the BJP leadership. The results of the opinion poll showed the Nitish Kumar lead Rashtriya Janata Dal to have lost a small percentage of support, while the BJP lead NDA gained more support, making the rival alliances at par with each other.
