New Comic Will Link Independence Day: Resurgence To Original Fil

Titan Comics will be the publisher behind the series, though it still doesn’t have a title. Who knew an Independence Day comic had to be this secretive?

The yet-to-be-titled book from Titan Comics is being described as “a rich psychological prison drama”, which confuses the hell out of me as I’m not quite sure how we get from INDEPENDENCE DAY to a prison movie to RESURGENCE.

The iconic scifi alien thriller “Independence Day” is about to make a much awaited come back with its sequel “Independence Day: Resurgence” nearly after 20 long years.

Presumably it will be released in the months prior to Independence Day: Resurgence’s theatrical debut on June 24, 2016.

In an interview with Collider, Emmerich explained that the alien fleet defeated in the first movie was only a small part of the invading extraterrestrial force. Unfortunately, they don’t reveal much information at all.

“[It will be] a golden opportunity to segue nicely into next year’s blockbuster sequel by taking the mythos of the original and maybe adding a little darkness to it.”

A new prequel comic will help fill in the gaps. Although the released information claims the distress signal was made before the alien’s final defeat. And oh, how those two decades have shaped the lives of the original film’s stars: Will Smith went from the likeable, bankable Fresh Prince to a (still likable) scientologist struggling to find a decent project (Hancock excluded), Jeff Goldblum became the darling of indie comedy, and director Roland Emmerich shifted his focus from alien invasions to the gay rights movement. “We had 20 years to come together as a planet and to build incredible things to have a little more even fight”. Since then, James A. Woods, Nicolas Wright, and James Vanderbilt have all had a hand in the screenplay as well.
