Nigerian army recaptures strategic town from Boko Haram

The Nigerian military has previously banned all horses and donkeys in Borno, following a wave of attacks by Boko Haram fighters using such animals.

It added that the troops are intensifying efforts to identify and neutralise all Boko Haram logistic bases to further constrict the terrorists and hasten their total defeat.

The recapture of this town, apart restoring Nigeria’s territory, would improve the economic activities in that area, Col. Usman said.

He said the recapture of the strategic town was facilitated by concerted efforts of the Nigerian Air Force and close liaison with the Cameroon’s Army.

Two days later, on September 24, the military circulated a statement saying another batch of 135 Boko Haram members surrendered with their weapons around Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

President Obama on Thursday authorized $45 million in defense aid to five African countries as they battle the Islamic militant group Boko Haram.

The release is the biggest since the Nigerian army raid on the Boko Haram stronghold, the Sambisa Forest, in May in which 700 captives were released.
