Tottenham completely crushed Manchester City in a surprising 4-1 win

With De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling testing the Spurs full-backs and Yaya Toure bossing central midfield, City were dominant and their superiority was underlined when they took a 25th-minute lead.

This was the first time since September 1962 that Manchester City conceded four goals against Spurs.

Kane finally ended his Premier League goal drought in the 60th minute as Eriksen’s free kick – which Demichelis gave away and was lucky to escape a second yellow card for his action – crashed off the crossbar and their leading goalscorer from last season knocked in a superb half-volley.

City can expect to be pitched against a strong Spurs line-up tomorrow and the Sky Blues will be hoping captain Vincent Kompany will return from his own calf injury after being out for the last two matches.

Key Stat: Manchester City have scored 16 goals against Spurs in their last four league games, winning each game.

“There has been a lot of talk that I have not scored yet but I am a confident young man and I have faith in my ability”, he told BT Sport.

Tottenham then took the lead early in the second half when Erik Lamela curled over a free kick for Toby Alderweireld to head home in the 50.

City drew first blood in the 25th minute.

City were rocking but had their chances to get back into the game first with Navas who let rip from a tight angle only to be denied by the fingertips of Lloris.

Mauricio Pochettino made eight to his side from the 2-1 defeat to bitter rivals Arsenal in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night.

City will be banking on the fine form of Sergio Aguero, record-breaking summer signing Kevin De Bruyne and inspiring Rahem Starling to wreck havoc to Totenham’s defence as seen against Sunderland. Plenty were reeled in but five straight wins in the Premier League have been followed by two consecutive defeats and, having begun the new campaign so exhilaratingly, their supporters must be startled about the speed at which everything has started to unravel and the shortcomings from last season have resurfaced.

But then Tottenham got an important strike before the break, which was also offside.

Attacking midfielder Erik Lamela would put the icing on the cake in the 79th minute with a cheeky goal in the box, as injured Joe Hart’s reserve Wilfredo Caballero endured a forgettable afternoon in north London.
