Tackle charge could see Broncos’ Hodges miss final

Retiring Brisbane star Justin Hodges will fight his unsafe throw charge at the NRL judiciary on Tuesday night in a bid to play in the grand final.

The omens were good from the outset for the hosts when fullback Darius Boyd scored an opening minute intercept try thanks to a Shaun Kenny-Dowall brain snap as the majority of the 51,826-strong crowd.

The Broncos went into the break 20-12 up after lanky winger Corey Oates dived over in the corner.

Tuivasa-Sheck’s spill on a bomb in the first set of the second half fell to Kenny-Dowall, who dived over and began celebrating a try.

It began badly and didn’t get much better.

Per NRL.com, “Whenever the Broncos and Roosters have met in a Preliminary Final, the victor has gone on to win the premiership”.

If he is anywhere close to full fitness, the visitors have the strike power outside of Pearce to beat Brisbane and book a place in the grand final at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.
