There has been plenty of trade speculation surrounding Griffin since it was made apparent that he would no longer be the starter, but the $16.177 million 5th year option for next season is a major roadblock in any trade scenario. While the Redskins didn’t help him much on the ground with only 88 rushing yards, the fact that Cousins is in no jeopardy of losing his spot likely makes other players question Gruden and his coaching methods. There was also speculation the elder Griffin was creating a nuisance by meddling in the team’s affairs.
