Next week the Eagles take on an impressive 3-1 Duke Bluedevil team. Flutie threw incomplete on his initial five.

On the Eagles’ next drive, Flutie hit Sherman Alston for a 30-yard gain to the Huskies 22 and then got greedy.

Hare found Chad Beebe for a 26 yard pickup on the first play of the drive, followed by a five yard hookup with Lewis to put the Huskies on the Eagle 35 yard line.

After Hilliman and the Eagles were unable to convert on junior John Johnson coming up with the first interception of his collegiate career, the Huskies ran 11 plays on the next series but were unable to break through. But on the next play, he threw an ill-advised pass that was picked off by Shawun Lurry. Yes, Ohio State and Boston College both have very good defenses, but the run game was nearly nonexistent in the first half of games against UNLV and Murray State as well.

Three plays later, Bouagnon ran up the middle for the game-tying score.

Tied at 7-7, the Eagles started to run a two-minute drill.

But there would be no Flutie heroics for a 48-yard pass to the end zone as time expired.

Toledo has defeated two Power Five programs on its schedule, both on the road and away, and with a good throttling of Arkansas State, a perpetual Sun Belt favorite, could see itself in the national rankings, even with a limited star running back in Kareem Hunt. But after a BC three-and-out, the Huskies drove 51 yards in 11 plays to penetrate deep onto the opponent’s side of the field. On 3rd-and-16, Hare threw one up for Desroy Maxwell, but Ty Schwab ran over him, resulting in a pass interference call. However, Christian Hagan’s 29-yard field goal was wide right.

On the ensuing drive, BC worked a 12-play drive worth over six minutes of game time.

That proved costly when BC marched 80 yards in 12 plays with Hilliman, who registered his fourth career 100-yard rushing game, scoring on a 21-yard cutback that included a straight arm on NIU’s Lurry before he crossed the goal line with 1:07 left in the third for a 14-7 lead. “Watching them play, watching them handle it. It’s fun to watch them develop, respond from last week, and just learn and understand the game”. Boston College finished with 92 yards through the air, barely beating out NIU’s 81 yards. After a BC punt set up the NIU offense for a chance to win it, Hare stalled at midfield and turned it over on downs, giving the Eagles their third victory of the year.

In the Eagles’ first game since sophomore Darius Wade suffered a season-ending knee injury, freshman Jeff Smith also saw time under center and rushed for 73 yards on nine carries despite not completing a pass. Smith had 56 yards on nine carries, including a long of 20.

Western Michigan has one of the most efficient offenses in the nation, with Jarvion Franklin, Corey Davis, and Zac Terrell carving up opposing defenses. The leading receiver was Tommylee Lewis, who had six catches for 42 yards but had several drops. One of Ambrose’s seven punts on the day was blocked by BC special teams.
