Who Is Redheaded Princess Merida In ‘Once Upon a Time’?
Be sure you check out the slideshow for more quotes from the episode. This is a recap and review, so all the details of the episode are about to be talked about. Emma’s vision of Rumpelstiltskin is actually a manifestation of the darkness. “Bad things”, says the usher. Remember Merlin and his prophecies?

The six week jump might be a good way to slyly erase characters, like Lily, Will, and Mel., who we will probably never see again. When one guy tried to pull the sword out, he literally EVAPORATED. You know the tale: He who possesses the ability to remove the sword from the stone shall be the greatest king. They have no idea why the sword is broken but decide not to tell the people anything other than that they have a new King. “Regina is going to the hero”, said Parrilla to Entertainment Weekly. “It’s not like she rode off on a unicorn!” Emma chose to give Regina the final say, a symbol of great trust between the two, and a huge vote of confidence for Regina’s strength to do the right thing no matter the consequences. Merida then tries to kill Emma.
I have to say, I really loved the way series creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis have merged bits of Arthurian legend into the Once Upon a Time landscape.
Cut to the Enchanted Forest, and the sword is still stuck in the stone – but not for long.
Emma appears out of a black well, and runs into Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle)? It was interesting to hear all the background information Not!Rumple provided, and it’s always fun seeing Rumple (even though it’s not Rumple) teach magic. The last one she dropped and summoned Merida.
Last time viewers saw Emma (Jennifer Morrison), she was sucked into a giant dark vortex, leaving nothing but her dagger behind. It has all the light magic but needs to be wielded by both light and dark. Regina picked up the wand. Or she’s at least trapped underneath all that darkness. He tells her to follow this blue floating shadow creature. “You’re going to embarrass yourself and waste our time”. But Regina knows exactly where to find her insane sister. They need Zelena. That’s when Regina realized, “She’s not in our world”. The first step is figuring out where she went. “Emma’s journey is going to encompass the whole season”.
Zelena (Rebecca Mader) is meditating when Regina, Robin, and Hook show up and ask for her help. Zelena does the spell but it is too much magic, it weakens her.
Rumple follows Emma through the forest, pointing out she’s lost. He invited them all back to his kingdom of Camelot. He helped her experience her first transportation. He tells her to catch it. The Evil Queen is on the road to redemption with her true love, Robin (Sean Maguire). Someone, maybe all of them, failed to recognize that she was on the edge of falling deep into the darkest part of herself. Does she rip Merida’s heart or let her live? Plus: We’ll see more of Henry working with Hook in a bid to save Emma. She wanted to be by his side if died.
Everyone rejoiced in seeing Emma again, who appeared to be seemingly okay. Emma couldn’t let her whisper to the whisps or she’d never find Merlin.
Henry distracts the guard, and Hook is able to walk right through. Zelena asks Hook, grabbing his knife and chopping off her own hand, and the magical inhibitor with it. She gets her magic back, and promptly disappears.
Hook and Henry face Regina’s wrath after letting Zelena escape, with Regina asking if he’d like another hook. He instead convinces Henry to help him sneak into Zelena’s cell, planning to free her himself. “It’s really her journey of exploring that”.
Tell us what you thought about the episode and Camelot below! Zelena was after one person – ROBIN. He takes them to Camelot.
Elsewhere, Emma uses dark magic to transport herself to where Merida has taken the will-o-wisp but finds that the wisp has already been claimed. She was on her A-game, taunting them as soon as they walked through the door. They weren’t taking the portal to Oz, they were going to the Enchanted Forest! The diner lifts off and up they go through the cyclone. He wants Emma to betray Merida and steal the whisp. As she’s about to crush it, Hook and the gang arrive.
“Emma is trying to, as we see in Camelot, resist the Darkness, and then she went full-on Lady Stardust at the end of this premiere”, Kitsis continues. “We can find another way together”. I was glad that help came for Merida and Emma when it did. And off Merida goes, chasing the wisp. Apparently, they’d been waiting for Emma. Lancelot, Percival, and Arthur reach the stone where Excalibur stands. King Arthur reveals they’ve come specifically to find the time travelers, which shocks the Storybrooke crew. Arthur believed that Emma would be able to reunite Merlin with them. No matter what she may be, they all agree that they must rescue her – but how?
GULP! That was one hell of a cliffhanger and now I have to wait to see what happened over the course of those six weeks?!! Their memories are gone. She disappeared without a trace.
After turning Sneezy into stone, she warns them that there is no savior in Storybrooke anymore.
With Emma out of the hero business at present, Regina will be needed more than ever by the residents of Storybrooke. Emma threatens them, telling the group that because of what they did to her in Camelot, they’re about to be punished.
Although, there’s more to season 5 than just Dark Swan. “While a lot of this story in the first half we tend to wrap up in the midseason, there are bigger issues that are introduced as early as [the premiere] that will carry over for the whole season….”
But Minneapolis is not the only place where someone receives a message about their destiny. “We want to honor the idea that their lives have been going on… we want to give a taste of where they’ve been and see how they can reconnect with everyone else and what that’s going to mean moving forward”.
