Police received a call about 9:30 a.m. about an unruly woman with a knife at the intersection of E. 22nd and South San Pedro streets, just south of the 10 Freeway, said Sgt. Frank Preciado.

An LAPD representative told KCAL9’s Greg Mills on Sunday afternoon that the woman was armed with a knife that had an 8 inch blade.
As the crowd marched, motorists, including patrol officers and firefighters, honked their horns and used sirens. The officers fired their weapons, and the woman was then taken to a local hospital, where she died. She has not been identified.
The details of the shooting were under investigation, Preciado said.
The woman’s name had not been released as of early this morning because the coroner’s office had not received her body and, as a result, could not make a positive identification, said coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz.
The L.A. Times reports that August was the deadliest month in the city in the last six years (for civilians, not police).
A group of about 100 LAPD officers and pro-police supporters converged in Hollywood on Saturday to broadcast the message that “Blue Lives Matter”.
“Police are being marginalized and demonized by a small segment of society with views that are magnified by the media”, Redican said.

The two officers who confronted the woman were described as a “training officer” and a “probationary officer”, the Los Angeles Times reported.
