‘CSI’ season 16, episodes 1 and 2 (series finale) preview: Marg Helgenberger

The two hour series finale brought us back to the heart of CSI in using forensics and reminding us of little things, such as when Lindsey, Catherine’s daughter and newest CSI, mentions chocolate covered grasshoppers, a throwback to the pilot episode when new girl Holly Gribbs was first brought on before being killed.

“I figured there would be an audience for it among those people who do crossword puzzles”, said William Petersen, the show’s original star. For 15 years, fans have watched as the two characters played around each other, with their eventual romance being confirmed in season seven when Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) went missing as a result of a serial killer case. In October 2000 a quirky drama called CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was a last-minute addition to the U.S. television schedules that told a story through stray hair fibres and blood spatter patterns.

CSI, which became the most-watched series in the world for many years, according to Zap2It, also spawned a number of spinoffs: “CSI: Miami”, “CSI: New York” and “CSI: Cyber“. Petersen recalled that in 2000 he was looking for a TV series, “but I didn’t want to play a lawyer, a cop or a divorced dad”.

The Finale airs this Sunday night on CBS 9/10c and the series has been published by IDW in comic book form.

“We definitely did not want him back,”said Zuiker”.

There were some amusing moments in the episode, such as when we see Grissom after all these years getting arrested for trespassing on a boat in which the owner was illegally obtaining shark fins. In the end, show creator Anthony E. Zuiker chose to give fans the ending they wanted.

For those of you who don’t know, before the Anthony Hopkins Hannibal Lecter film series or NBC’s “Hannibal”, Petersen originated the on-screen version of former FBI profiler Will Graham in the 1986 thriller “Manhunter”, based on Thomas Harris’ “Red Dragon” novel. “Granted, it was just 1 tiny truth about one distinct case, but it was a thing you could touch and see and trust in”. Ted Danson, who has been the star of CSI in recent seasons, will be sticking with the franchise with a role on CSI: Cyber. We don’t know what the fate of the girls will be, but there’s a strong hint that Catherine will make sure they are okay. Even now, when science has fallen into disfavor among many – people for whom what you believe overrules what science proves – “CSI” still champions the scientific method in the face of its cultural assault.

As Grissom told his colleagues on an early episode: forget personalities, ambitions and assumptions.

The trip ends Sunday, “by offering the fans who’ve been loyal so lengthy with an opportunity to say goodbye to the individuals they fell in like with at the start”, says Danson, who vows, “It will be really satisfying”.

“I still feel a little delirious”, says Fox a few days after filming “Immortality” as per The Chicago Tribune. “I feel like, wow, look at this fantastic run we were able to have! That’s a comforting feeling”.
