LEGO Dimensions has a three-year plan for new content

For a start, Lego minifigures have always been considered collectables as much as they are toys, and considering that all of the add-on packs feature a new minifig character from the worlds of TV, movies, comics or games, they will each be sought after in their own right – regardless of their in-game abilities.

Parents, that sound you hear is your wallet breathing a sigh of relief. This allows you to unlock special themed level depending on the pack you purchased.

Lego Dimensions was just released today, and people are already spending almost entire paychecks on the game.

It’s unclear whether they are also aiming to deliver a price cut in order to make LEGO Dimensions more attractive in the run up to the very important Christmas shopping season.

LEGO Dimensions is a toys-to-life adventure – similar to games such as Skylanders and Disney Infinity – that includes physical toys from a number of franchises to be played with the game.

But LEGO Dimensions’ point of entry is higher than the other two games.

The game itself is also amusing – after all, it is a Traveller’s Tales title, so offers parodies on its subject matter. Meaning, don’t expect a LEGO Dimensions 2 this time next year, because there won’t be one. Three Level Packs are available from the off too – Back to the Future, The Simpsons and Portal. In other words: add-on content.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Mark Warburton, associate producer on the LEGO Dimensions game franchise, said: “we have a three year plan at the moment and we have got no intention of stopping there”.

“We’ve created the technology to the degree that we’re happy it meets our needs for the future”.

Level Pack ($29.99) This contains one character and two accessories.
