Early reports indicated that some employees were still in the building with the suspect after police had isolated him to an area on the second floor.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Area police are responding to a reported “active shooter” situation at Crusader Community Health Clinic on Broadway in Rockford.
The shooter was reported to be in police custody around 6 p.m. local time. “Police are trying to make that happen”, and “they are prepared to stay as long as it takes for a peaceful resolution”. No one was injured in the incident.
Everyone inside the building quickly evacuated to nearby businesses and other safe locations.
Police say the suspect’s information will be released at a later time.
RPD kept roadways near the clinic closed off to traffic and pedestrians as the standoff continued.
Officials with Crusader Clinic say the the second floor includes a medical unit with a pediatric ward, family medicine and general practitioners. Fire crews are standing by while police talk with the suspect. He requested to speak with family members while in the standoff, but his request was denied due to police protocol.
