In a conciliatory move, the new Labour leader pledged to remain in post if his party chose to back renewal of Trident despite his lifelong opposition.
He said: “I congratulate Jeremy on his success and he is a man of principle, he has strongly held views and I respect him for that”.
Mr Corbyn received “warm applause” in the meeting, which ran for more than an hour, and “quite a lot” of the questions “weren’t actually hostile”, she added.
The questions also marked a distinct change – for the first time ever they had been “crowd-sourced” from the public.
Corbyn’s first PMQs – as it’s often referred to – comes just four days after his resounding victory in the Labour Party leadership contest.
Of those eligible to vote in the Labour party leadership election, the results showed 77 per cent would vote to remain a member of the European Union – including those who voted for Corbyn.
Last night Tory MP Sir Nicholas Soames, the grandson of Winston Churchill, said not singing the anthem was “very rude and very disrespectful” to the Queen and “the Battle of Britain pilots who gave their all“.

“Austerity is actually a political choice that this government has taken and they’re imposing it on the poorest and most vulnerable in our society”, Corbyn said, receiving a standing ovation from his followers.
