The Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes launches on October 23 in North America and Europe. This allows people who do not own a copy of the game to play it, provided they are on the same local network as a friend who does.

Use the new Totem mechanic to stack three Links on top of each other to reach higher grounds and solve puzzles.

Characters can employ special abilities by wearing different outfits acquired over the course of the game. You can choose to team up with a combination of players who are and are not part of your Nintendo 3DS friend list. These include a Zora costume which grants the ability to swim, a Goron suit making its wearer impervious to lava, and a variety of sub-weapon based outfits providing additional combat options.

It means that someone who doesn’t own the game can jump in and will also have the chance to transfer over their saved data if they buy Tri Force Heroes to explore the other features.

Nintendo has clarified how download play works in The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes on 3DS.
