Refer Syria crisis to worldwide Criminal Court — United Nations chief

Ban says five countries “hold the key” to a political solution to Syria: Russian Federation, the US, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Iran. “During Obama’s speech, people were yawning”.

“This progress is real”, the president said. “That unsafe currents pulling us back into a darker, disordered world”. As the US’s ongoing battle with al-Qaeda demonstrated, he said, “we will not be outlasted by extremists”. And in Iraq, Trump said he would be willing to send round forces to fight the radical militant group. The official noted the meeting comes “at the request of President Putin“.

The prospect of a Russian led coalition against ISIS adds further confusion to Washington’s dilemma over the Syria situation.

Putin, without naming the United States, accused Washington of trying to enforce its will on others and mulling a possible reform of the U.N., which he suggested stands in the way of the perceived USA domination.

The ongoing crisis in Syria looms large at this year’s gathering.

“At the same time, I urge Europe to do more”, he said. If it is implemented, “a potential war is avoided” and “our world is safer”.

Mr Cameron said he remained committed to a peace plan adopted in 2012 which called for the formation of a transitional government “on the basis of mutual consent” and expected Assad would leave power.

It was the first of two addresses Obama is making at the United Nations. “The only way of establishing the safe zone is by reinforcing the Free Syrian Army [FSA] and the moderate components”, he said on Sunday, “We don’t want to see either Daesh [the Arabic acronym for ISIL], or the Syrian regime on our borders”.

Obama ended his address by highlighting the values of democracy.

During their bilateral discussion, Obama will press Putin to deescalate tensions in Eastern Ukraine where pro-Russian forces continue to clash with the Ukrainian military. On Tuesday, he will sit down with Cuban President Raul Castro and Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

“Chanting “Death to America” does not create jobs or make Iran more secure”, the United States president said, in an address to the annual UN General Assembly in New York. “But realism also requires a managed transition away from Assad and to a new leader”. We recognize the deep and complex history between Russian Federation and Ukraine. “If that happens to a sovereign nation like Ukraine it can happen to any nation here”.

In power for 15 years, Assad is virtually the sole survivor of the Arab uprisings that have unseated rulers across the Middle East and North Africa. From Singapore to Colombia to Senegal, the facts show that nations succeed when they pursue an inclusive peace and prosperity within their borders, and work co-operatively with countries beyond their border….

Germany and the USA have also talked up the possibility of keeping Mr Assad, in a deal to end the four-year Syrian civil war and help defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil). “Those who have found themselves on top of that pyramid were tempted to think that since they are so strong and singular, they know what to do better than others and it’s unnecessary to pay any attention to the U.N”.
