The Wood County Sheriff’s Department was contacted immediately and the gun was confiscated.

United States airport security agents discovered 67 firearms in luggage passengers meant to carry on to planes during one week in September, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

Security agents found 67 firearms during the week leading up to September 17, of which 56 were loaded and 26 had a round in the chamber. TSA agents released pictures of guns found inside checked luggage at airports nationwide.

Based on the total number of firearms discovered by the TSA through August (1,898), 2015 is on pace to break last year’s annual record of 2,212 firearms.

In July, new TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger advised a congressional panel that his prime precedence can be to shut safety gaps at airport checkpoints.

The TSA reports in a blog that it finds guns in airplane luggage all around the country on a near-daily basis. TSA said its agents stopped a man on Thursday at a Greater Rochester global Airport checkpoint in New York when they detected a gun in his carry-on bag. “This is a friendly reminder to please leave these items at home”, the TSA says in its weekly disclosure of weapon discoveries.

Passengers who bring weapons to a security checkpoint could face charges from law enforcement and civil penalties from the TSA up to $11,000. The TSA also says you should check with the airline your flying, as they may have specific rules about firearms as well.
