Skrtel impressed by hard-working Ings

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool are in possession of the Premier League’s second best striker.

The 23-year-old scored his first competitive goal for the club in their draw against Norwich City before also netting against Carlisle United in the League Cup.

Ings moved to Anfield during the off-season and Skrtel said he has brought a huge work rate and tremendous energy to the team.

Sturridge recently made his comeback after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury and netted twice at the weekend to help Liverpool to victory over Aston Villa.

“Sturridge’s finishing deserves the accolades but a lot of it is coming from Danny Ings pressing people, running in behind and making the game quicker”.

Before his arrival, Liverpool fans thought Ings a hard worker who potentially lacked the highest quality, but at 23-years-old, he’s showing the potential to be much more than that.

In total, Sturridge has scored 42 goals in just 68 matches for Liverpool since moving to the club from Chelsea in January 2013 and his injury last season, along with the departure of Luis Suarez, was seen as the major factor behind Brendan Rodgers’ team falling from second to seventh.

“I know he didn’t score (against Liverpool last season) but facing him was tough, really tough”, said the Slovakia global.

Ings started up front alongside the returning Daniel Sturridge on Saturday and their pace and movement caused the Villa defence a number of problems.
