Sony are struggling to compete in the modern-day mobile market as mobile gaming threatens to wipe out handheld gaming products, claims Sony chief Shuhei Yoshida.

You’ve probably heard that Vita original Gravity Rush is getting a remaster for PlayStation 4, and beyond that, a sequel which will be PS4 exclusive. It has earned a lot less success compared to its predecessor, PlayStation Portable.

KitGuru Says: The PSP set the stage for Sony to dominate the handheld gaming market, unfortunately, things didn’t really go to plan with the Vita.

Sony’s executive also noted that Sony Bend is developing a “cool” game. He also stated that he is huge fan of the PS Vita and that PlayStation’s team have worked really solid on designing every feature. Players can unlock the ability by using this method and a specially built “whitelist” file, to play many (but not all) previously incompatible Vita games and apps on their PlayStation TV, including Netflix.

The hack, provided by Hackinformer poster Mr.Gas, shows how it’s possible to exploit a loophole in the Vita’s email client to load a modified whitelist into the client and open up an entirely new set of games.

“I hope, like many of you, that this culture of playing portable games continues”.

However, the different shade might bump the sale of the PlayStation Vita a bit but will definitely not tip the scale. In recent years, though, the smartphone has begun supplanting dedicated devices for quick, on-the-go gaming – and with top-end smartphones boasting more processing power and memory than most hand-held consoles, it’s not hard to see why.
