Developers can now submit APKs up to 100MB on Google Play

But when you get into the larger storage devices, or have a device with support for a MicroSD card, you stop worrying as much. For some time now, the maximum file size that developers could make their apps on the Google Play Store has been 50MB, not including expansion files. The change will benefit more of the developers than the users, since it is now more convenient for developers to package their apps.

The idea is not to encourage the development of bloated apps, but to provide a way to “build higher quality apps and games that users love”. Secondly, it ensures users don’t have to wait too long to download the app or game, install it, and open it. As Google explained, it’s a tight balance between taking advantage of the available hardware, targeting diverse audiences around the world, and offering a speedy experience. Particularly in developing countries, many people are coming online with connections slower than those of users in countries like the USA and Japan.

Mobile data caps: Many mobile networks around the world give users a limited number of MB that they can download each month without incurring additional charges. They also take longer to install and use more system resources. The default update setting is still auto-updating apps over Wi-Fi only. Previously, Google would warn you if you were about to download something over 50MB, but that is now increased to the new limit of 100MB.
