The report claims Visa sent notices to financial institutions warning about the possible credit card breach between April 21, and July 27, 2015, but the alerts did not reveal which company was allegedly hacked.

The Hilton Hotel franchise has reportedly become the latest victim of a cyberattack with hackers stealing credit card data.

The students, from the Ayotzinapa teachers college in rural Guerrero, travelled to the city of Iguala on Sept 26 past year, to commandeer buses to join a commemoration in Mexico City.

Krebs quoted sources as saying that the fraud seems to have stemmed from compromised PoS devices, but is not thought to affect guest reservation systems. This alert indicated that some Visa cards may have been compromised.

The properties include Embassy Suites, Doubletree, Hampton Inn and Suites, and the Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts.

The Hilton Hotel properties in the United States have begun an official investigation into the incidents, and it isn’t looking so promising.

Security expert Brian Krebs has written a blog post claiming fraudsters hacked tills in gift shops and restaurants in a number of hotels.

“Unfortunately the possibility of fraudulent credit-card activity is all too common for every company in today’s marketplace”, it said.

A Hilton spokesperson told ABC15 Monday that they take any potential issue very seriously, and that they “are looking into this matter”.

It’s not clear how many Hilton properties were affected by the apparent breach, Krebs wrote.

Although the number of compromised Hilton properties remain unclear presently, Krebs reports that the breach of credit card data may go back to November 2014.
