The force tweeted: “Bit of an unusual one”.

Anyone with information about the escaped kangaroo (or wallaby) can contact Gloucestershire police on 101, reference 462 of 26 September, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

“Officers were called at around 9.30pm (26 September) when a member of the public reported seeing the animal”, reads the statement.

The cops later joked: “Not the usual bouncers that we’re interacting with on a Saturday night”.

The marsupial was photographed outside a house in the Dursley area overnight, but it managed to hop away over a wall. But the quick-thinking animal escaped by storming towards them and leaping over a wall, the Sunday Express reports.

The public were first alerted to the floppy-eared fugitive’s presence on Saturday, when Gloucestershire Police issued the following tweet. We’re not waiting for further sightings and for the owner to come forward’.

Rich Gillingham, whose garden was searched for the kangaroo, said: “That was one of the most freakish evenings of my life”.

“Just serving up supper and two coppers walk into our kitchen and ask if they can search our back garden for a kangaroo”.

Hartpury College, in Gloucestershire, has confirmed its collection of wallabies were “tucked up safely in their enclosure this weekend”.

But a local farm in Gloucestershire has agreed to take the roo if it’s finally found.

They later realised it was a wallaby they were in fact hunting after several hawk-eyed followers pointed out that it looked too small to be a kangaroo.

Inchconnachan island in Scotland’s Loch Lomond also has its own population that was introduced in the 1920s.

The fugitive marsupial is now thought to be a wallaby
