Furniture Row Racing has picked up the 2016 option on Martin Truex Jr’s contract.

With the switch becoming official, FRR will become one of two Toyota-backed teams in the Sprint Cup garage with technical support coming from Joe Gibbs Racing by way of engines and chassis. Michael Waltrip Racing, the other factory Toyota team in the Sprint Cup Series, likely won’t exist in 2016.

The veteran driver will race for this single-team camp one more season in hopes of continuing their improvement and competitiveness. On top of that, Truex is a quality driver who has been looking for a consistent team that would steadily carry him higher in the standings each year.
Furniture Row now has an alliance with Richard Childress Racing and fields a Chevrolet. However, things have turned around in the 2015 season and Truex won his third career race and made the Chase due to that win at Pocono. “But it’s the belief we collectively share in how we can even be better yet”.
“It’s been 10 years that we’ve been racing and trying to make our way in Sprint Cup and part of the progression trying to expand our team is to find a platform that would continue our growth, and Toyota give us this platform”, said Joe Garone, president and general manager of Furniture Row Racing. “It puts us perfectly where we want to head”.
The deal with Toyota could open the opportunity for the single-car organization to start a second team.
“It’s not just the place, it’s the people – especially this year”, he said.

“I think what they bring is another crew chief that can help solve problems”, Gibbs said.
