Former World player of the year Ronaldinho has left Brazilian side Fluminense and is on the look out for another club as his career comes to a close.
The 35-year-old forward did not score or make assists during his nine appearances at Fluminense and was booed on several occasions by his own fans. The same positive attitude was demonstrated in training with the club.
Fluminense said in a statement late Monday that the split was “amicable and mutually agreed by both sides”.
“It should be noted that the player’s hiring met all expectations with regarding to marketing returns, increasing ticket and shirt sales for the club as well as attracting a number of partners”.
Ronaldinho broke into their first team in 1998 and after three years with them, Paris Saint-Germain picked up on his qualities and brought him to Ligue 1.
Ronaldinho has ended his contract with Fluminense, sparking rumours that he may retire from football.
Ronaldinho, who won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil, moved this season from Mexico club Queretaro to Fluminense.
The one time Ballon d’Or victor has tried his back in his home country since leaving European football, plying his trade with Flamengo and Athletico Mineiro prior to his most recent stint.
