Bharti, against whom a case of attempt to murder and domestic violence was filed by Delhi on his wife Lipika Mitra’s complaint, was directed to surrender after his anticipatory bail was rejected by both High court and Apex Court.
However, the bench said that it was not concerned with the issue at this stage and asked how should Bharti conduct himself as a responsible citizen after dismissal of his plea before trial court and the High Court.
The “hide and seek” game between Delhi ” s ex-law minister and police ended on Monday evening when he surrendered to police in a domestic violence case filed by his wife Lipika Mitra.
Photos tweeted out by news agencies showed Bharti waving a copy of the Indian Constitution at waiting reporters as he arrived at the police station. Bharti’s counsel also said that police has enough time to recover the articles which it did not do.
The cops finally stopped searching for the AAP leader after the South Carolina asked Bharti to surrender on Monday. Add to this Mr Bharti’s previous misdemeanours and indiscretions – from his spamming company to his scandalous “judges meeting”, it is seems unlikely that he will be able to script a comeback. The special public prosecutor, appearing for the police, said that Bharti’s custody was also required in connection with the investigation relating to his pet dog Don, for which an expert has already been consulted.
Police officials on duty said they were not sure if Bharti would surrender.
“First surrender and then come before us… we shall take care of the mediation aspect as we have a good mediation centre here”. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had also called his party colleague as an “embarassment”.
