New Jackpocket app sells lottery tickets
Playing the New York Lottery just got as easy as downloading an app.

The New York Post says the timing for this app couldn’t be better, as the Powerball jackpot reaches $301 million.
The app maintains that it is perfectly safe and legal – in fact, it’s even safer than engaging with the lottery the normal way, as “your physical tickets are securely stored in a locked vault that only our core team members have access to”. 9to5Mac says employees are sent out to stores to buy paper tickets, which are then scanned and emailed to users so they have a record of their numbers.
Jackpocket is available for free on iOS and Android devices, although you’ll need to be sent a link to the app for Android because of Google’s Cromwellian stance on gambling apps.
If you win? If it’s $600 or less, your Jackpocket account will be credited.
Jackpocket, which launched Monday, represents the first app that allows you to buy official state lottery tickets in New York using your phone, CEO Pete Sullivan said. Jackpocket is not associated with a state lottery system and said they act more as a courier service, claiming their way is the most secure way to play the lottery.

Retailers have agreed to split their 6 percent commission with Jackpocket. But, this is all now limited to New York-based lotteries – Jackpocket has plans to expand to California and New Jersey, but there’s no timetable for that yet.
