School placed on lockdown after student brings Confederate flag on campus

A Georgia high school was brought to a standstill last week after a 10th grade student brought a Confederate flag with him to class.

“He got dropped off out of his truck and came down the sidewalk just like any other student does”, Cupp recalled.

The student – a white male – arrived at the school with the flag strapped to his backpack and walked through the cafeteria.

Historically, the flag was the official image of the Confederacy and “southern delight” through the Civil War period, however to African Americans it’s only a blatant image of oppression and hatred and pertains to a time in historical past that America must be ashamed of, not proud.

Cupp said there was shoving and an exchange of words between the students before staff members broke it up.

Cupp said all three students were suspended. The three students involved in the original incident were suspended for causing the “disruption”.

The school did a weapons search after the incident and no weapon was found, but the administration did order a lockdown drill until rumors of other students with Confederate flags were dispelled.

“We just did that as a precautionary situation to help maintain and control what could have been a bad situation”, Cupp told Fox 5 Atlanta.

WAGA reported that the students will be offered counseling services to ease any remaining tension when they return to school.

“I don’t want to give him no backlash because it would be different if he said, “just the white kid go home and not the black kid” or vice versa”, High said.

Do you believe the student meant to “incite imminent illegal conduct” with his display of the Confederate flag? Two of whom approached the guy and asked him what was up.

“When you become a distraction where students can’t learn because of a distraction then that needs to be removed”, he said.
