The star quarterback on a New Jersey high school football team died Friday night after suffering an injury during a game.
“He was laying on the ground and everyone was looking at him”, Taylor Coughlin, a 16-year-old junior, told LehighValleyLive.com’s Jim Deegan.
Murray’s team reportedly went on to win the game.
Teammates and friends left flower bouquets and handwritten cards, fighting tears and wrapping their arms around one another.
A high school football player in Louisiana died earlier this month from injuries suffered after absorbing a hit on a punt return during a varsity game.
He was taken to the hospital after the hit, where he later died. His classmates and teammates were as baffled as everyone else over what killed an athlete who also starred in baseball and basketball.
A GoFundMe account has been set-up to raise money for Murray’s family. “As Americans and parents we need to come to understand what moments like this means to children in sports and their families”.
“No one believed it at first. It’s unbelievable. I still don’t believe it”. Another student, Kaitlin Bell, who is also a cheerleader at Warren Hills, said he tried giving the team a thumbs up as he was taken away. A short time later, he apparently collapsed.
The school held a memorial Saturday morning. In addition to be varsity quarterback, he was a starting pitcher for the Streaks at Warren County High School. “We will have continuing counseling available at Summit High School on Monday for our staff”.

“We’re burying these boys every year without knowing what killed them”, said Terry O’Neil said, the CEO and found of the Practice Like Pros organization, which advocates contact-reduced practices to athletic departments across the country.
