The advert, posted on London2Let.com, said the current tenants were “not really looking for somebody that just wants to stay in their room”.

“I willl think again about looking at places without pictures”, she added.

Alex Lomax responded to an advertisement for a room for rent.

“I didn’t even stay long enough to check if there was a mattress, and the landlord seemed absolutely serious”.

‘I was warned it was expensive, so ready to pay a lot for even a share, but this is clearly ridiculous’.

‘He showed me the room pretty much straight away, so I didn’t get to see much of the house itself.

The absurdity of room rental prices in London has been highlighted by a landlord letting out a cupboard under his stairs with a bed in it for almost $250 per week. “Bills to be shared – approximately £60 per month each”.

“I left as quickly as possible and said something like “it’s not right for me”.

What do you reckon £500 a month could buy you? The line in the description that reads “not really looking for somebody that just wants to stay in their room” is a bit suspicious, but then it does seem like a hell of lot of trouble to go to just for a practical joke.

As there aren’t any pictures on the flat advertisement Alex Lomax posted, we can’t tell for sure whether this particular case is definitely true.

A cupboard under the stairs in Battersea has been put on the market for £500 a month – before bills. The room is located on the 1st floor of a typical fancy Victorian style house. “Equipped with fitted wardrobe”.
